If you want your brand to stand out, then you want to be the host with the most. This does not mean that you have to host the next mixer, gathering, event or lunch activity. What it does mean is that you need to âact likeâ the host at any event you attend. If you want to stand out, act like the host. Youâre not taking away from someoneâs event. In fact, if anything, youâre adding value and you are also being very visible about your own value. Invited to an event? The next event you go: You be the one to meet people. Take the initiative to welcome. (Not in a weird way by cutting off the actual host â" but in a helpful way that helps new people to the event feel included and most of all welcome.) Thereâs a lot of hype around the âBig 3â â" Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. But what about niche social networks? If youâre an expert in it, thereâs a social network for it From shopping (Kaboodle) to knitting (Ravelry) to movies (Flixster) and everything in between, thereâs like at least one social network devoted to your area of expertise thatâs just a Google search away. Thereâs even a new social networking site â" Zaang â" that allows you to create your own âWorldâ about your topic of choice. (Disclaimer: Zaang is a client, but I truly believe in their product.) Are you a Web designer? Theyâve got it. Social media guru? Check. And what they donât already have, you can begin on your own. Donât âspray and prayâ Just like when youâre searching for a job, quality trumps quantity. âSpraying and praying,â or sending your cover letter and résumé to as many companies as you can simply because they may or may not have an opening that you may or may not qualify for, is just not the best way to job search. The same is true when using social networks to build your brand. Itâs fairly easy to go nuts and join tons of social networking sites when youâre first getting your name out there. Be selective. Know how much time you have to devote to social networking, and choose the networks you join and participate in accordingly. 10.000 people watching - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Yesterday we had the annual Ecco Walkathon in Copenhagen, an event where people can sign up to take a walk for charity. They walk 6, 10 or 15 km. and for every km, every person walks Ecco (shoe maker) donates 5 kr. (a little under a dollar) to a charity of their choice. Its a wonderful combination of exercise, party and charity drawing in around 20.000 people. And Maria Hartung (a fellow instructor from the SATS fitness chain) and I volunteered to do the warm-up. For 10 minutes. Twice. In front of 10.000 people each time. Let me tell you: I was nervous. I teach aerobics three times a week to 20-30 people. Ive performed shows in front of 200-300. But this was a couple of orders of magnitude larger. So going on stage was a challenge. And a blast. MAN it rocks, being on stage in front of such a large audience. The first time we went on, I snapped a picture, so this is what 10.000 people look like from the stage and this is what it looked like from the crowd. Being up there, the buzz is incredible, the adrenaline pumps and you get this enormous rush. I want to be a rock star in my next life :o) But most of all, I want that large an audience again. Soon.
